As a developing home care provider, we will incorporate environmental responsibility into our mobilization, purchasing, workforce planning and service-delivery decisions from the outset.
Local Recruitment and Efficient Travel
Wherever practical, SafeNest will recruit care workers who live within or close to the communities they support. This will help reduce unnecessary travel, improve punctuality and continuity of care, and create employment opportunities within local communities.
Care packages will be organized geographically, with staff allocated to defined local areas wherever possible. Rotas will be planned to minimize excessive mileage while continuing to meet individuals assessed needs, preferences and agreed visit times.
We will encourage staff to walk, cycle, car share or use public transport where this is safe and practical. As the organization grows, we will also explore ways to support the use of lower-emission and electric vehicles.
Digital Care Management
SafeNest Care Services Ltd has selected Careberry as its intended electronic care-management system. The system will be implemented as part of our mobilization arrangements before regulated care services commence.
Once implemented, Careberry will support electronic care planning, visit records, medication documentation, staff scheduling, monitoring, invoicing and other operational processes.
Our planned use of digital care-management systems will help us to:
- Reduce printing and reliance on paper-based records
- Plan staff visits and travel routes efficiently
- Avoid unnecessary journeys to collect or deliver documents
- Share authorized information securely and promptly
- Monitor service delivery remotely where appropriate
- Manage administrative processes electronically
Essential information will only be printed where this is required for safety, accessibility, regulatory compliance or an individual’s assessed needs.
Responsible Purchasing
Where quality, safety, availability and value allow, SafeNest will purchase goods and services from local or environmentally responsible suppliers.
When selecting products and suppliers, we will consider:
- The supplier’s environmental commitments and practices
- Product quality, durability and opportunities for reuse
- Minimal, recyclable or lower-impact packaging
- Consolidated deliveries to reduce unnecessary journeys
- Lower-emission delivery options
- Safe alternatives to single-use products
- Opportunities to support local businesses and communities
Clinical safety and infection-prevention requirements will always take priority. However, we will work with suppliers to identify lower-impact personal protective equipment and care products that remain compliant with applicable health and safety standards.
Reducing Waste
SafeNest will promote the correct segregation and disposal of general, recyclable, confidential and clinical waste.
Staff will receive appropriate guidance on:
- Using personal protective equipment safely and appropriately
- Avoiding unnecessary waste while maintaining infection-prevention standards
- Disposing of clinical waste correctly
- Recycling suitable materials
- Reducing avoidable printing and office waste
- Reporting waste-management concerns
Confidential information will be stored and disposed of securely in accordance with data-protection requirements.
Energy and Resource Efficiency
We will take practical steps to reduce energy and resource consumption within our office and administrative activities.
These measures will include:
- Using energy-efficient equipment and lighting
- Switching off equipment when it is not required
- Using online meetings where appropriate
- Avoiding unnecessary heating, cooling and electricity use

During our first full year of service delivery, SafeNest will establish an appropriate baseline for the material greenhouse gas emissions arising from our operations.

- Fuel use and staff transport patterns
- Office energy consumption
- Paper and printing use
- Waste and recycling arrangements
- Purchasing and supplier practices
The information collected will help us understand our principal sources of emissions and identify realistic opportunities for improvement.
We will review our environmental performance annually and establish proportionate reduction targets as reliable operational data becomes available.
